Why Bold Bible Uses the King James Bible
Bold Bible uses the King James Bible (KJV) in English. There is no version selector — and that is a deliberate choice, not something we're hiding.
"Can I switch to another version like NIV or ESV?"
Not at this time. Bold Bible offers the King James Bible in English only. You won't find a setting to switch, compare, or download other translations, because that feature does not exist in the app.
Why only the King James Bible?
Most modern English translations (NIV, ESV, NASB, NLT, and others) are copyrighted by their publishers. Displaying their text in an app requires a paid licensing agreement and ongoing fees, along with restrictions on how verses can be copied, shared, and quoted.
The King James Bible is in the public domain. That means we can show it freely, you can copy and share verses without restriction, and the full text of God's Word stays open to everyone.
What you gain instead
Rather than spreading effort across many licensed translations, Bold Bible invests in tools that help you understand the King James text deeply:
- Word Study — long-press any word to see the original Hebrew or Greek, Strong's number, and definition.
- Ask Eli — ask any question and get Scripture-grounded answers with references you can verify.
- Discern — test teachings and quotes against Scripture.
- Reading plans, notes, highlights, and memory tools — to read, mark, and remember the Word.
A note of encouragement
We believe God promised to preserve His words: "The words of the LORD are pure words... thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever" (Psalm 12:6-7). The King James Bible gives you that preserved Word in English, free and unrestricted, with rich tools to study it.
