If you could ask God one question, the most important one would be: “How can I be saved?” Salvation is the central theme of the entire Bible—from Genesis to Revelation, God is working out His plan to rescue sinners from judgment and bring them into eternal fellowship with Himself.
What Are We Saved From?
To understand salvation, you must first understand the problem. Every human being is born with a sin nature inherited from Adam. “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12 KJV).
Sin separates us from a holy God. The just penalty for sin is eternal death—separation from God in the lake of fire. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23 KJV). Salvation is deliverance from this penalty.
How Is Salvation Received?
By Grace Alone
Salvation cannot be earned. It is a free gift from God. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9 KJV). Grace means unmerited favour—God giving us what we do not deserve.
Through Faith Alone
The means of receiving salvation is faith—believing and trusting in Jesus Christ. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31 KJV). Faith is not a work. It is the hand that receives God’s free gift.
In Christ Alone
There is no other way of salvation. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6 KJV). Not through religion, not through good works, not through any other person—only through Christ.
What Happens When You Are Saved?
At the moment of faith, several miraculous things happen simultaneously:
- Justification: God declares you righteous in His sight, based on Christ’s righteousness (Romans 5:1)
- Regeneration: You are born again—given a new spiritual nature (John 3:3)
- Indwelling: The Holy Spirit takes up permanent residence within you (1 Corinthians 6:19)
- Sealing: You are sealed by the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of your eternal inheritance (Ephesians 1:13–14)
- Adoption: You become a child of God with all the rights and privileges of sonship (Galatians 4:5–7)
Can Salvation Be Lost?
Absolutely not. If salvation depends on Christ’s work—and it does—then it is as secure as Christ Himself. Consider these promises:
- “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28 KJV)
- “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39 KJV)
- “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6 KJV)
Eternal life that could be lost was never eternal to begin with. God’s salvation is permanent, irrevocable, and secure.
What About Good Works?
Good works do not contribute to salvation, but they are the evidence of it. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10 KJV). A saved person will produce fruit—not to get saved, but because they are saved.
Have You Been Saved?
Salvation is available right now. If you have never trusted Christ as your personal Saviour, you can do so today. Believe that He died for your sins, was buried, and rose again. Trust Him alone for your eternal salvation. The moment you believe, you are saved—forever.
