Bible Verses About Forgiveness
Forgiveness sits at the heart of the Gospel — we are forgiven freely, and we are called to forgive freely. Scripture neither minimizes the wound nor leaves us trapped in bitterness; it shows a God who removes our sin as far as the east is from the west and asks us to extend that same grace. These verses speak both to receiving forgiveness and releasing it toward others.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
"Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye."
"As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."
"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
